Social Exclusion Experience
We seek to understand the ways in which transport provision can promote social inclusion. As transport consultants we are aware of the importance of good transport links in providing all people with access to important goods and services.

Transport & Travel Research Ltd (TTR) have carried out a number of projects in the area of Social Inclusion, some examples of our research experience can be seen below.
Notable Projects
- Assessing perceptions of the security of public transport amongst a range of socially excluded and high risk population sectors in Liverpool.
- Co-ordinating a European consortium to produce a working methodology for local and regional authorities to assess the relationship between transport and polices to combat social exclusion in their areas.
- Assisting Leicestershire and Rutland County Councils to manage the implementation of their Rural Bus Challenge Cross County Project aimed at relieving social exclusion within rural areas of the two Counties, and to generate locally developed transport solutions.
- Completing the Public Consultation on Centro's 20-Year Public Transport Strategy, which involved focus groups with socially excluded groups, such as disabled people, hospital out-patients, women, and groups representing ethnic minorities.
- Developing a communication strategy for disseminating and marketing information to Minority, Ethnic and Faith communities (including asylum seekers).
- Investigating the perceived and actual transport barriers to employment in the West Midlands, and developing solutions to trial under the successful WorkWise scheme targeted at job seekers.
- Preparing a successful Urban Bus Challenge bid on behalf of Lancashire County Council, the objective of which was to address social exclusion in inner areas of Burnley by developing a demand responsive bus service to link inner city areas with places of employment and education.
- Carrying out research into the role played by transport in the decision-making process of young people considering further education in Torbay.
- Producing a transport strategy addressing social exclusion in the city of Bristol, based on best practice guidance at the national and local level.
- Being appointed by the Department for Transport as part of a team responsible for the development of approaches to the assessment of accessibility to education, work, food and health, in response to the Social Exclusion Unit's report on transport.
- Identifying gaps in the preparation of the West Midlands LTP concerning public consultation, and advising on areas where specific social groups were under-represented.
